Littleton, New Hampshire

Littleton , Gem of the White Mountains, offers a quality of life that is rare in today’s world. With clean air, clean water, low crime, and a picturesque mountain setting, you will find a vibrant local economy and a very livable small town feel. Littleton ’s town center is alive with small and interesting shops, restaurants, inns, historic buildings, and service businesses (6 banks). It includes a riverwalk with a working grist mill and foot bridges over the scenic Saranac Cascades. Littleton’s Main Street has won over twenty national awards and Littleton was selected as the “ninth best small town in America.”

Town Spirit. The Pollyanna Spirit is emblematic of Littleton, and for good reason: Eleanor Porter, who wrote Pollyanna, grew up in Littleton. The optimism and “can do” spirit are apparent as you look around the community and experience the friendly atmosphere. Volunteerism and community pride are evident.

The Economy. Littleton is an employment and trading center serving the White Mountains region of New Hampshire and adjoining Vermont towns. The local economy has been based on manufacturing since the early 1800’s. Today there is a diverse mix of light manufacturing, producing wire, paper, automotive products, electrical connectors, furniture, and various other consumer products. The largest coin dealer in the country is a home-grown company, employing over 400 people; our five-year-old hospital is a major employer providing up-to-date health care to the region.

Littleton is in the country, in the mountains, but with high speed internet and two interstate highways, it is connected. A growing number of people have chosen to live and work here, while employed by companies in Boston and elsewhere. Many others at or near retirement age move to Littleton to enjoy the scenery, outdoor recreation, and our satisfying quality of life.
